Our History

How the PCVCDA NGO was born and why it is essential

Genesis

Origins & motivation

The idea of creating the NGO Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Community Life in Africa (PCVCDA) arose from several observations, together with the doctoral thesis work of Dr N'Gaza Ekora (2021), in support of promoting the cultural and natural heritage of African regions for sustainable development.

Taking the particular case of Côte d'Ivoire, it is easy to believe that to thrive one must live in forest zones or move to large cities. This drives immigration, rural exodus, and recurring land-related conflicts in host regions. Yet assets favorable to the social well-being of populations exist in every locality across Africa.

Another observation concerns youth who lack sufficient knowledge to benefit from the many assets of their region. Many are unaware of—and show no interest in—the diverse values of heritage sites that are either abandoned or destroyed. We deemed it essential to work in this area to support awareness-raising for the valorization and preservation of these existing or endangered assets.

Findings

The challenges that mobilized us

African realities that call for urgent, collective action.

Rural exodus & migration

Ignorance of local wealth pushes young people to leave their region, causing land conflicts and social imbalances.

Abandoned heritage

Valuable geological, archaeological, historical, and cultural resources are ignored, abandoned, or destroyed for lack of awareness.

Unemployment & poverty

Unemployment, delinquency, and poverty are linked to young people's inability to embrace the cultural and environmental values of their region.

Communication deficit

Decentralization goals are not met for lack of mastery of communication tools essential to the well-being of local authorities.

Our response

An NGO to unlock Africa's potential

This NGO helps fight growing poverty effectively by revealing and valorizing existing or endangered heritage. It is also committed to better mastering communication tools essential to the well-being of local communities.

Through communication and awareness-raising, the PCVCDA NGO enables better valorization of the wealth represented by the heritage of Africa's diverse regions.

Awareness & valorization Revealing to communities the wealth of their immediate environment so they can take ownership of it
Fighting poverty Creating sustainable income sources from local natural and cultural heritage
Grounded in research Founded on the scientific work of Dr N'Gaza Ekora and backed by academic research
