The PCVCDA NGO
The NGO Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Community Life in Africa (PCVCDA) is fundamentally dedicated to transmitting cultural education while aligning it with advances in scientific and technological knowledge across the African continent.
In tropical regions, communities' capacity to adapt—though rooted in valuable ancestral knowledge—is often insufficient in the face of rapid environmental change driven by global shifts, whether climatic or human-induced. Traditional education, as it is received, paradoxically leads to overexploitation of natural resources, particularly through direct and uncontrolled consumption.
Furthermore, Africa's colonial history has, over time, encouraged the gradual abandonment of indigenous cultural practices in favor of so-called modern ones. These cumulative behaviors cause marked environmental degradation and resource depletion, thereby jeopardizing the survival of future generations.
A major challenge for Africa
Fortunately, scientific research still offers the possibility of reconstructing and improving fundamental knowledge. However, the main challenge in Africa lies in the failure to disseminate research data to the communities that need it most. Once data are collected, findings remain confined to the narrow circles of universities and research centers, without being returned to populations or integrated into appropriate valorization programs.
As a result, local communities face immense difficulties in ensuring sustainable management of their natural and cultural resources.
Science in service of communities
The PCVCDA NGO advocates using science to help all communities understand and adapt to the transformations of today's world.
Environmental preservation
Education grounded in scientific data to strengthen communities' capacity for sustainable management of their natural resources.
Sustainable agriculture
Transmitting environmentally respectful agricultural practices that combine ancestral knowledge with modern scientific understanding.
Creative cultural industries
Valorizing and sustaining African cultural practices in a context marked by climate change.
Tourism & value chains
Developing tourism activities and creating ecological value chains to support community livelihoods without depleting natural stocks.
Effective resilience for African communities
The PCVCDA NGO's program aims to enable genuine uptake of research results for effective resilience, thereby ensuring the well-being and prosperity of future generations.
